How can you opperate solely by pubic donations?
SUPER QUESTION!!
It is very difficult!! But I am determined to continue our efforts and help as many children as I can.Our dedicated volunteers help with all kinds of fundraising events throughout the year. And every year we try new things, work with new volunteers and try our best to secure new donors and partnerships!!
Our fundraising events are hosted monthly for various events and needs. But because we are run by volunteers we don't have payroll, benefits and the alike to worry about. Allowing your money to go even further.
Plus, by not having all the red tape that constantly gets stuck in my hair, I can actually produce better programs and have more freedom to change events and programs to meet the ever changing needs of our keiki.
My goal is to have some full time partners and sponsors that have the same visions and the funding to continue our eftorts so I don't have to have bake sales in the rain....and other ridiculous en-devours I take on the collect spare change.
-
Can I choose how my Donation is used?
Yes!!
We allow every donor to make the difference they choose. You choose the current campaign or event to sponsor. Just write a note along with your on ine donation, and we put your donation to good work.
Example:
- Feed A Child/Feed A Family,
- Fill A Stocking/Easter Basket
- Purchase their new Backpack for school, etc.
- Summer Camp Programs
- Feed A Child/Feed A Family,
-
Is Project Hawai'i run by a church?
No,
We are are an independent nonprofit organization. We accept all community partners regardless of their religious beliefs.
-
How do I know my Donation will help a child, or service provided
We understand this question. I ask you to trust me! This is my only purpose on Earth is to care for these precious children.
But I know that is not enough for anyone!!
So, come to one of our events, volunteer or get involved. I invite everyone to help make the difference in these lives! We invite the public to visit or volunteer at all our holiday parties, summer camp activities and other services.
-
How do you get the children you service? Are they in shelters?
Another great question.
First let me say we help the homeless, not the sheltered. These children live without proper needs, like running water, electric or even walls...
Now how do we find them? That is the easy part....
We have several was of connecting with the children we provide services to. The director and I actually seek out the homeless children living in bushes, along the waters edge and spread high in the hills. We conduct monthly outreach and continue our search to help the homeless children.
We also have a great coconut wireless system. These homeless families trust us, and will refer others in need.
And finally, remember when I said that I was put on this Earth to help these children? Well these children are put right in front of my face on a daily basis. I would trip over them if I wasn't looking.
Seriously, I always have an opportunity to help a homeless child. While shopping, eatting, and even driving. Yes, even trying to cross the street, they are put right there. Then it is up to ME to reach out. As strange as that might be, they are put her for me to help!!
-
Is my Donation Tax Deductible?
Yes,
We are a nonprofit organization. We will provide you with the proper documents you need to file your taxes. I cannot tell you how much of your donation will be accepted due to the percentage guidelines YOU adhere to.
For Example: If you donation $1,000.00 but only need $300.00 deduction, the IRS is NOT going to give you a refund for $700.00.
BUT if you owe $2,000.00, this $1,000.00 donation will be used to counter act how much you actually pay.
You need to consult your own accountant, as everyone's tax needs are different. These are ONLY examples and CANNOT be used to FIGHT the IRS if you are audited.
-
What other Donations can I make other than Money?
Great Question!!
As we are open to all sorts of donations throughout the year to enhance the lives of homeless children, we do have guidelines and timelines for your donation. Due to lack of storage and volunteers we can NOT accept random donations outside our timelines.Examples Below, but PLEASE contact us before donating if you are not following the current campaign:
- During the HOLIDAY months, we do accept NEW toys, NEW clothing, and other party needs. We will be happy to provide you a list of our needs. We are even happy to have you help prepare meals and goodies for the keiki
- During the Summer Months we accept items for the summer camp, such as educational supplies, arts/crafts, menu food items, etc. Again we have a list of 10,000+ items.
- Monthly Outreach: Each month we provide the keiki with hygiene and meals. We will have scheduled outreach days that we can deliver your donation to them. See our calender or email for the list of needs and dates of delivery.
- FOR EVEN MORE Donations accepted PLEASE VISIT our holiday pages. Each holiday will have lists of items we need.
- During the HOLIDAY months, we do accept NEW toys, NEW clothing, and other party needs. We will be happy to provide you a list of our needs. We are even happy to have you help prepare meals and goodies for the keiki
-
OMG! Why don't you accept all my old and used items? These children are homeless after all.
Well you are right!!
But I don't have the time or space to hold, sort and then figure out who needs what and still keep some of my sanity. While most of your donations probably would make a difference in their lives, I am not equipped to handle all that.
So, my suggestion would be to go ahead and deliver those items to shelters, or other service providers who have a full staff and lot of space to handle such items.
Thank you for your understanding!!
Oh, yes, I know they are homeless and poverty stricken, which makes YOUR donation of a NEW Oufit or shoes SOOO Much more special to them. Helping to rasie their self esteem and letting them know they are worth more than they ever thought!
Mahalo again.

Most Popular Volunteering Questions
-
How can Project Hawia'i run 100% by volunteers and STILL BE reliable?
This question is asked over and over again. My answer once again will be that this is what I was born to do! I can't see getting paid to feed a homeless child, or provide a party for families that would otherwise go with out.
I enjoy allowing the community to "come and go" where they are needed to make the difference they want to see.
While our agency is run majoritily by a very select few VERY dedicated volunteers, we do have so many who come just once or just for one annual event to ASSURE that this is a a reliable program.
The keiki count on US and we count on YOU!
Everyone makes the difference.
Here is a very important quote from a unknown author:
"Don't ever question the value of volunteers. Noah's Ark was built by volunteers; the Titanic was built by professionals."
-
How do I register to have my community service hours honored?
We partner with all sorts of community service projects out there. Allowing teens the opportunity to earn service hours to graduate, and allowing college students to keep their scholarships.
We work with single moms to help them keep their benefits and learn new skills to secure a wonderful new job or career.
So, please contact our volunteer coordinator to get signed up.
YOU will be responsible for BRINGING your papers and keeping track of your hours. Our volunteers will sign them for your needs.
-
What if I just want to be a ONE Time volunteer?
That is PERFECT!!
We run 100% by volunteers!! Therefore we count on those who only have one time to help out at our special events and fundraisers. We are flexible with our schedules and allow volunteers to come from 3 hours to the full day.
Contact us for our up coming events and we will put your loving hands to work!
-
What if I want to become a FULL TIME volunteer?
WOW!! That is a wonderful challenge.
The first step is to decide what you want to help with. Weather it is general help that is needed on an on going basis, helping with office, or computer needs, or actually running a program.
Then you will be set up with the volunteer opportunity of your choice, and even given a wonderful title!
For example you can become a,
- Event Coordinator
- Fundraising Chair
- On Line Marketing/Social Network
- General Help, set up, organizing, putting crafts together, meal prep, etc.
We have soo many to list, so please contact us for our current needs.
-
